Not only are there different types of products that can be purchased to provide an income through retirement but each of these products have a number of options that will effect the amount of income that you can expect to receive.

We provide further information about the most common options within a conventional annuity, these are:

• Lives assured: your own or your spouse too
• Inflation protection: level or increasing by a certain amount each year
• Proportion and Overlap: what happens to the remainder of your income on death
• Guarantee period: how many years the annuity will be paid regardless of your death
• Arrears or advance: payment at the beginning or end of the month
